New York Metro Area is Short on Natural Gas
New York City, Westchester County and Long Island are facing a shortage of natural gas. This shortage is caused not as a result of insufficient natural gas supply, but because the pipelines bringing natural gas to the area are at capacity.
As a result, Con Edison has been forced to implement a moratorium on new natural gas service in Westchester County. National Grid has made a similar announcement for its New York City and Long Island customers, and the utility is processing new natural gas connections until permits for a new pipeline pending before New York State are approved.
