Energy, Your Health, and Environmental Justice

Air pollution poses a serious threat to our nation’s health, and the majority of the pollution we are forced to breath is created by the combustion of fossil fuels. Specifically, as the reports detail below, air pollution, which contains ozone, particulate matter and volatile organic compounds, have been shown to cause acute respiratory problems, aggravate asthma, inflame lung tissue and lead to hospital admissions and emergency room visits.

Environmental Justice pertains to the rights of those communities disproportionately burdened by noxious and undesirable land uses. Read on to find reports describing these injustices, particularly as they relate to air quality, and measures that can be taken to assert each individual’s right to a healthy environment, open space, and community services.
