Agenda

SHARE is committed to ensuring clean and affordable power for all New Yorkers.

Right now, New York City, Rockland, Putnam, Orange and Westchester Counties violate federal clean air standards. Failing to comply with clean health standards has been scientifically proven to increase rates of asthma and heart attacks, lung cancer and premature death.

Furthermore, New York has the second highest electricity prices in the nation, placing a tremendous burden on State residents. The price of electricity in New York has placed an undue economic burden on New York families and businesses, while poor air quality has led to high asthma rates and has left our most vulnerable at risk.

Recognizing these realities, SHARE is committed to:

  • Reducing air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions to ensure the health and safety of community residents,
  • Substantial community input before new power plants are permitted to be built,
  • A large investment in cost effective energy efficiency, management and awareness programs to lower energy bills and improve our environment,
  • The continued operation of all facilities that provide clean and affordable energy, including the Indian Point Energy Center which provides 20% to 40% of the area’s power, and
  • The development of renewable energy, such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric power, to help address the state’s growing need for clean and affordable power.

SHARE needs your support as we advocate for cleaner air and lower energy costs.
