A Tribute to Norris McDonald
A Tireless Advocate for Environmental Justice
Norris McDonald – a champion of environmental protection and environmental justice – passed away on May 14, 2019.
Norris was a tireless advocate for environmental justice concerns, increasing participation of African American’s within the environmental justice movement and for the efficient use of natural resources. His passion for these issues led him to found the African American Environmentalist Association in 1985 and lead this organization throughout his career until his passing.
Norris’ work led to a long list of accomplishments including the formation of the Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Environmental Justice, the landmark authorization of New York City’s Environmental Justice Plan in 2017, and awards from the National Wildlife Federation, Ebony magazine and many others.
SHARE, and its member organizations, are proud to have worked alongside and in partnership with Norris. We’re grateful for his contributions and the positive change his decades of dedicated service has brought about.
